In 1973, Chicago became home to the world’s largest building when the Sears Tower was built and is currently the 3rd highest in the world and first in North America.  Standing at 1450 feet and 110 stories tall, it consists of more than 4 million square feet of commercial and office space and is the center of Chicago’s bustling financial district.

The Sear Tower was built using steel columns and beams in a “mega-module” system and was designed by the architectural form Skidmore, Owings & Merrill for the Sears, Roebuck Company.  It is now owned by a private real estate management firm and no longer has any affiliation with the large retailer.

Inside the tower, there are a number of amenities for the professionals.  It has 7 restaurants including Starbucks, Mrs. Levy’s Deli, Corner Bakery, Mia Torre, and Dos Hermanos.  A private Metropolitan club offers meeting facilities and fine dining on the 66th and 67th floors.  There is also a full-service bank, executive parking with car detailing services, a fitness center, hair salon, newsstand, florist, bookstore, dentist, and a U.S. Post Office.

At the top of the Tower on the 103rd floor there is a Skydeck which offers a 360-degree skyline view of Chicago, and on a clear day, 4 states can be seen – Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Wisconsin.  The Skydeck elevator goes 1600 feet per minute to the top, serving more than a million visitors each year.  Inside the Skydeck are interactive kiosks that highlight key features in the Chicago Skyline as well as high-powered telescopes and binoculars.

The Sears Tower is located at 233 South Wacker Drive, Chicago, IL 60606.
